The project was made possible in large part through the generous donation of the aircraft by Sylvester Williams, owner of Island Auto Supplies (IAS). Supported by government ministries, regulatory bodies, and private industry partners, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainable marine tourism and environmental responsibility. A Rigorous Process of Safety and Environmental Stewardship The aircraft, originally stationed at Robert L. Bradshaw (RLB) International Airport, underwent an extensive multi-phase inspection before being deemed ready for submersion. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Marine Resources played a central role in the process, working closely with all partners to ensure that every environmental and safety standard was met. Particular attention was given to the complete removal of fuel and oil from the aircraft. Both systems were thoroughly emptied and flushed to eliminate any risk of contamination to the marine environment, helping protect the surrounding reef ecosystem. Bureau of Standards Grants Approval After Comprehensive Assessment The St. Kitts Bureau of Standards conducted a comprehensive independent assessment of the aircraft, examining it for a full range of potential hazards, including radiation screening. Only after all inspections were successfully completed and the aircraft was confirmed to pose no environmental or public safety risk did the Bureau grant formal approval for submersion.
